Singled out by the Toronto Star as one of “2010′s people to watch,” recently appointed Minister Hoskins (2011) is the Liberal MPP for St. Pauls area in Toronto, Ontario. As the Minister of Children and Youth Services, he is the chief decision-maker for the Children’s Aid Societies of Ontario (see CAS primer) – the highest level of authority at the agency. The Minister can open and close CAS agencies, hire and fire executive directors, investigate and action files, interpet, introduce and/or tweak policy, and generally do anything that he feels represents the best interests of the vulnerable children and families the CAS is commissioned to protect.

The burden of responsibility for the Children’s Aid Societies of Ontario falls squarely on Minister Hoskin’s shoulders ** (and is shared with the Premier).

** In November, 2012, Dr. Eric Hoskins resigned his position as Cabinet Minister to run in the Liberal leadership race. His post was reassigned to Laurel Broten, who held this portfolio prior to Hoskins getting elected as MPP. Minister Broten appears in the film, Powerful As God (Chapter 11, Accountability)
